Based on a variety of talking events, the Bavard Bar is a place for people to come together and share their passions. Think 'Ted talks' meets 'the Moth’.
On the 3rd Wednesday of every month at the Kino-teatr in St Leonards, and the 1st Thursday of every month at Printers Playhouse in Eastbourne, three ‘regular’ people take to the stage and speak for 15 minutes each about something they love. Funny or sad, ordinary or extraordinary, talks at the Bavard Bar have included everything from Autism to the Spartans, the Interpretation of Dreams to Luxembourg, the Art of Flirting to the first Emperor of the USA (true story). And after each speaker, the audience has the chance to interact and ask questions.
Speakers and their subjects are not revealed until the night, so like a 70s jamboree bag of sweets, you never know what you’re going to get until you come along. There are also wild cards on the night including ‘KP Lite’, where the mic is open for anyone to speak to 6 mystery slides, each of which moves on after 15 seconds. And there’s a brand new wild card for 2018, a bit of ‘Oojah Kappivvy’. Think "Would I lie to you”. Got what it takes to bluff the audience…?

David Bramwell, author, broadcaster and host of Brighton’s Catalyst Club, recently gave a brilliant talk at the Bavard Bar about ‘The world’s worst orchestra’. After speaking, David said to Tim Crook, the genial host and compere of the Bavard Bar: "You’ve set up something really magical...I had a great time."
